What is 'Describing place'
Assalamualaikum teman-teman ketemu lagi nih sama aku. Masih bahas hal yang sama yaitu Text Descriptive tapi untuk pertemuan kali ini yang akan kita bahas adalah describing place. Apasih describing place itu? Yuk cari tau bareng-bareng.
Describing Place
A good description of a ‘place’ helps to explain what makes it so different from other ‘places’ and can give a good guide as to where it is located. A description can be divided into two parts: the Physical features and the Human features.
Physical features are those things that occur naturally, such as mountains, rivers, soil, wildlife, climate etc..
Human features are those that involve people, such as roads, houses, farm land, jobs or occupations and industry. Note that much of the countryside of Britain has been changed by people, ever since the Romans began cutting down the forests to farm the land about 2,000 years ago.
When describing places, such as in the image below, it is not enough to simply say ‘there are houses’. Appropriate vocabulary should be used to give an indication of how many houses there are, what the houses are built of, and whether many people live there, or just a few.

Vocabulary
Words that Embrace a Place
The words we choose will allow the reader to understand the writer’s perspective. To call something bustling and vibrant is quite different from desolate and deserted. (Alive, attractive, beautiful, bustling).
Words to Express Dislike for a Place
If the show doesn’t fit, don’t force it. Go ahead and call it polluted, rundown, or even horrifying. Try to evoke scents as well as sights with your prose. (Bleak, boring, creepy, crowded, deserted, desolate, expensive).

Selanjutnya setelah kita belajar vocabulary yuk kita lanjut ke Word Order
Word Order
Word order is a general term used in linguistics and literature to refer to the arrangement of words in a given linguistic structure. It is most commonly examined in the context of sentences, as word order can substantially affect the meaning of a given sentence. In some languages, word order is almost as important as the words used in specifying meaning while other languages permit a wide variety of word orders because the words themselves carry the most meaning. In literature, words are ordered differently in different situations in order to create a particular sound or rhythm, or to subtly alter the possible meaning of a given phrase. Poets, in particular, must often manipulate order to achieve the desired rhyme and rhythm schemes.
Setelah kita pelajari hal-hal diatas selanjutnya aku bakal kasih liat kalian contoh yang aku buat sendiri. Contoh ini nanti bisa kalian jadikan referensi juga.
Writing
Lawang Sewu
Lawang Sewu in the Javanese language is translated to mean “a thousand doors”. And while the building does not really have a thousand doors, the massive, three-story structure is lined with numerous doors and windows that resemble doors, from which the building obtained its name. Located on Central Java’s north coast, Semarang city is easily accessible either by air, train, bus or car. The Ahmad Yani International Airport offers international routes and domestic flights which are available from Jakarta, Surabaya, Denpasar, Bandung, Balikpapan and Banjarmasin.
The place is distinguished simply for the numerous doors and windows found here and the building was christened as the Gedung Lawang Sewu and tourists love coming here simply because of the distinctive Dutch Symbolism and the immensely long corridors leading to the offices on the other side. Lawang Sewu is famous for the doors and windows. The place is famous for the Thousand Doors and windows and the fascinating stained glass windows representing the Dutch Symbolism of the places like The Hague and Rotterdam and also the Royal family. The building has numerous long winding corridors which open out to the offices on one side of the office and the other end of the building on the other hand. It is a famous landmark in the region of Semarang and a pride for Java.
The place was often considered to be haunted place as many truly and sincerely believed that the place was inhabited by spirits and ghosts and thus many people used to feel scared to visit the place fearing the obvious. However later the place was converted in to a heritage site and many came to visit the place during their holidays or vacations while coming to visit the Semarang. There are other places also which deserve mention but Lawang Sewu stands out among the rest.
